This post is part of a two-part series on Solid Waste Management. In part one, we take a look at the history of waste management and how it’s currently treated in contemporary Canada. In part two, we take a look at some of the up-and-coming technologies of waste management. Lagos is asserted to be the filthiest capital in the world. The influx of people into the metropolitan area has no corresponding technology to cope with the solid waste generated by the ever increasing population. Coupled with this lack of technology is the lack of adequate knowledge of the composition and generation rate of the refuse which has led to mismanagement of the environment.

By studying solid waste generation trends for three socioeconomic statuses, it was found that the solid pa capita generation rate decreases with decreasing socioeconomic status.

Solid waste compositions also exhibited variations due to socioeconomic status. one of the most important factors in waste management. Municipal solid waste in Bangladesh contains as much as 65% of moisture, whereas it is only % in India, and % in Europe, making the waste here more suitable for composting.
